Event overview
The Drop - Harrogate is an outdoor navigation event organised by Organic Adventure Ltd. The next scheduled race date is 22/03/2026. Participants may enter as individuals or as part of a team and choose between these measured-as-the-crow-flies distances:
- 15-mile
- 10-mile
Registration includes collection of a race number and an emergency bag. Electronic devices, watches and navigational aids must be handed in at registration and sealed in the emergency bag.
Format and rules
Participants are blindfolded for transport to an undisclosed drop-off location and must find their own way back to the event centre without maps, GPS, route guidance, compass or external help. Distances are quoted as the crow flies, so the actual travel distance may be longer. Rules include no GPS (devices must remain sealed in the emergency bag), no unauthorised maps, no shortcuts, and breaking the emergency bag seal results in disqualification. Blindfolds can be replaced with blackout safety goggles or an alternative if required. The event FAQ lists details such as cut offs and required kit; participants are responsible for checking those before event day.
Live GPS tracking is offered as an optional, paid safety feature. Trackers are said to be accurate to about 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings or signal black spots. Trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee of £175 will apply.
