The Drop - Harrogate
The Drop is a navigation challenge that starts and finishes at Up & Running Harrogate, 16 Station Parade, Harrogate HG1 1UE. The event on 21 March 2027 takes participants to an undisclosed drop location; the aim is to find a way back to the event centre without external navigation aids.
Three distance options are offered. Distances are measured as the crow flies and the actual route will be longer.
- 6 miles as the crow flies, open only to non-locals
- 10 miles as the crow flies, core Drop option
- 15 miles as the crow flies, original longer option
At registration participants surrender electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. Each person receives a race number and a sealed emergency bag which must remain intact; breaking the seal leads to disqualification. Deployment is by bus while wearing blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; blindfolds are removed at the drop and timing begins.
Rules include no GPS unless devices are sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, and travel on foot only. A live GPS tracking option is available separately for safety and sharing; trackers must be returned after the event or a replacement fee will apply. Participants are responsible for reading the FAQs covering cut-offs, required kit, and safety information. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
