The Drop - Liverpool
The Drop at Liverpool Watersports Centre is a navigation challenge in which participants are taken to an undisclosed location and must find their own way back to the event centre. There are no route markers, no directions, and no reassurance; uncertainty is a deliberate part of the format.
Distances offered:
- 10 miles (as the crow flies)
- 15 miles (as the crow flies)
- 6 miles (as the crow flies, non-locals only)
The 6 mile option is restricted to non-locals to preserve fairness; entries may be checked and local participants moved to the 10 or 15 mile options. Distances are measured as the crow flies and actual travel distance will be longer.
At registration participants hand over electronic devices, watches, and any navigational aids. In return they receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag that must be carried for the duration of the event. Deployment uses buses and blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives; when blindfolds are removed the challenge begins and participants are entirely responsible for their route choices.
Rules include no GPS unless devices are sealed inside the emergency bag, no unauthorised maps, and travel on foot only. Live GPS trackers are available as an optional safety feature; trackers must be returned or a replacement fee will apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
