The Drop - Liverpool
The Drop is a stripped-back navigation challenge that starts and finishes at Liverpool Watersports Centre, 110 Mariners Wharf, Queens Dock, Liverpool. Participants are taken by bus, wear blackout blindfolds or approved alternatives, and are driven to an undisclosed drop location. When blindfolds are removed the clock starts and each participant must find their own way back on foot with no route guidance.
Three distance options are offered:
- 15 miles - measured as the crow flies
- 10 miles - measured as the crow flies
- 6 miles - measured as the crow flies, open to non-locals only
At registration participants hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigational aids. They receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag, which must remain intact for the duration of the event. Rules include no GPS, no unauthorised maps, on-foot travel only, and disqualification for breaking the emergency bag seal.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional feature for convenience and safety. Trackers are said to be accurate within 5 metres but can be affected by tall buildings and black spots. Trackers must be returned to staff or a replacement fee of £175 will apply. Entries for the 6-mile option may be checked to confirm non-local eligibility.
