The Deep North Run
The Deep North Run is an unofficial half marathon that runs from Tynemouth Priory to Ouseburn in Newcastle. The route follows the coastline and river into the city and finishes with a social gathering in Ouseburn.
The event is community led and described as an informal, non-competitive experience. Food and drink are part of the course: there are doughnut-fuelled aid stations along the route, coffee on course and at the finish in hot or iced options, and a coffee and doughnut included at the finish. A finisher medal is provided and live tracking and timing are available via a third-party app. There is no official chip timing.
This is an unsanctioned community event. There are no road closures and participants must follow the Highway Code. Runners are responsible for their own pacing, safety and navigation. A GPX route and full event instructions will be provided in advance.
Practical notes: the event is point to point, so it finishes in Ouseburn rather than back at the start. Public transport is recommended; Tynemouth Metro Station is a short walk from the start and parking in Tynemouth is limited. The event supports the If U Care Share charity, with £5 from every entry donated. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
