Run Gateshead Hot Chocolate 5k : Derwent Haugh Country Park
Run Nation stages the Hot Chocolate 5k at Derwent Haugh Country Park near Swalwell, Gateshead. The route is on paved footpaths and tracks and is described as mostly flat. The course consists of one loop of the park with the start and finish located close to the Swalwell Visitor Centre.
The event uses chip timing and includes distance markers every kilometre. Facilities at Race HQ include bag drop, changing rooms, first aid and toilets at Blaydon Rugby Football Club, where parking is also provided. Water is available at the finish and refreshments are served by Blaydon Rugby Club. All finishers receive hot chocolate and a finisher medal.
Entry is open with a limit of 200 places and a minimum age of 11. Entry fees are shown as £13 for affiliated runners and £15 for unaffiliated runners. Entries close on 7th December 2026. UK Athletics rules apply; runners are not permitted to wear in-ear headphones or to run with prams or dogs. Individual prizes are awarded to the top three men and top three women overall; there is no team prize for the 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
