Run Gateshead Hot Chocolate 5k
This event is a chip timed, one-loop 5K held at Derwent Haugh Country Park in Gateshead. The route follows paved footpaths and park tracks and is described as mostly flat. The course is traffic free and marked with distance signs every kilometre.
The race starts and finishes near the Swalwell Visitor Centre. Race headquarters and registration are at the same general location, with parking available at Blaydon Rugby Club a short walk from the HQ. A bag drop is provided at the race tent. Toilets and refreshments are located at Blaydon Rugby Club. Water is available at the finish and first aid cover is provided.
Entry is open until 7th December 2026 or until the 200-place limit is reached. Fees are listed as £13.00 for affiliated entries and £15.00 for unaffiliated entries. The minimum age for participants is 11. Chip timing is used and all finishers receive a medal. Individual prizes are awarded to the top three men and top three women overall; there is no team prize for the 5K.
Under UKA rules and for insurance reasons, in-ear headphones, prams and dogs are not permitted. At the finish, all runners receive a hot chocolate provided by Blaydon Rugby Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
