Event overview
Run Nation will hold the Run Gateshead Hot Chocolate races at Derwent Haugh Country Park, Swalwell, on 14th December 2025. The event includes two distances:
- 5K - one loop of the park on paved footpaths, mostly flat.
- 10K - two loops of the park on paved footpaths/tracks, mostly flat.
Both races are traffic-free and chip timed. Minimum ages are 11 for the 5K and 15 for the 10K. Finishers receive a medal and hot chocolate provided by Blaydon Rugby Club.
Logistics and rules
Race headquarters and registration are near the Swalwell Visitor Centre with parking at Blaydon Rugby Club. Facilities listed include bag drop, toilets, changing, first aid and refreshments. Distance markers are placed every kilometre. Water is available at the finish for the 5K and at 5 km and the finish for the 10K.
Entry fees and limits are listed separately: the 5K shows affiliated and unaffiliated fees and a 200 entry limit; the 10K shows affiliated and unaffiliated fees and a 300 entry limit. Entries close on 12th December 2025. Prizes include top three men and women overall; the 10K also has team prizes (first male and female team, three to count). Headphones, wheeled devices, pets, prams and similar items are not permitted. Results are based on gun time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
