The Dave Lucas Memorial 10K
The Forest of Dean Athletic Club stages the Dave Lucas Memorial 10 km, formerly known as the Blaisdon 10K. The race is based at the Red Hart Inn in Blaisdon, Longhope, and uses nearby Blaisdon Nurseries for spectator and competitor parking; the nursery is a short walk from the pub and will be signed and marshalled.
The course is AUKCM certified and is an out-and-back route on quiet country lanes with distance markers every kilometre. The surface is tarmac but may include some uneven patches and minor potholes. The turnaround is at Gunn’s Mill, and water is provided at the 5 km turnaround and at the finish.
Timing is gun-to-chip using reusable shoe chips issued at race registration on the night; chips must be returned after the race. There is a 90-minute cut-off and runners must reach 5 km within 45 minutes. Marshals will be positioned along the route and a lead bike, two tail runners, a mobile first aider with a defibrillator, and a first aider at race headquarters will be present.
Race instructions include keeping left on the road, no headphones (wearing them will lead to disqualification), and not cutting corners at right turns. Results and prize-giving are processed after the last runner finishes, with prizes for individual and team categories and championship medals awarded.
