Cordwell Colossus
The Cordwell Colossus is a summer trail loop on the edge of the Peak District in North Derbyshire that visits the trails, paths and woodlands of the Cordwell Valley with a short excursion into the Linacre Valley. The course is approximately 19.7 miles / 31.7 km with 3035 ft / 925 m of ascent and ranges from highly runnable trails and lanes to more involving single track and trods.
The route is largely unmarked, with a few trickier navigation sections marked by the organiser. Route notes and GPX files are provided for download, and entrants are advised to carry a paper map as backup. There are two checkpoints, both offering water and a mix of sweet and savoury food: CP1 at Wigley (7.5 miles) and CP2 at The Peacock at Cutthorpe (13.5 miles).
Race headquarters and the start/finish are at Holmesfield Village Hall / Holmesfield Parish Hall, with free car parking at the hall. A six hour time limit applies. Every finisher receives a medal and first male and female finishers receive prizes. Light refreshments are available at the finish and there is medic cover on the course and at race headquarters.
