Ricky's Race, Darley Dale
Ricky's Race is an evening fell event held in Darley Dale near Matlock on 13 August 2026. The route covers 7.3 km / 4.5 miles with approximately 240 m of climb. The minimum age for entry is 16 years. Entry is by pre-entry only, paid at the time of registration, and there are no entries on the day. The race has a participant limit of 275 and the course is waymarked. The event holds a permit with associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA.
The route starts on a forest trail that includes a short flat section before a wooded ascent with exposed tree roots. The climb continues onto a short tarmac section and then an ever-climbing lane of more than a mile. A technical descent follows, with wooden trails, muddy sections and route choices. After a short retrace and a further wooded ascent, runners emerge near South Darley and face the final steep climb to the Oker Trig Point, quoted at about 1:3. From the trig point there are views across the Derwent Valley and a skyline section toward the Oker Tree before a final series of technical descents, a last stile and a short field run to the finish.
