Race Details
Ricky's Race is a 7.3 km (4.5 mile) route with 240 m (787 ft) of total climb. It is organized by Matlock Athletic Club and takes place near Darley Dale, close to Matlock. The event has a participant limit of 275 and a minimum age requirement of 16. The entry fee is £6.50. Registration is online and in advance only; no entries are accepted on the day.
Course Description
The race starts on a forest trail. After a brief flat section, the first ascent begins in the woods, featuring tree roots and a tarmac lane that climbs steadily for over a mile. Runners then descend on technical woodland trails with muddy sections.
The course briefly retraces its path before climbing again through woods towards South Darley. The final, significant challenge is a steep ascent to the Oker Trig Point on a 1:3 gradient hill. From this point, there are views over the village and the Derwent Valley.
The finish involves a section along the skyline near the Oker Tree, followed by technical descents. Runners exit through a final stile and cross a field to the finish line.
