Ricky's Race
Ricky's Race is an evening off road event held in Darley Dale near Matlock and organised by Matlock Athletic Club. The course covers 7.3 km / 4.5 miles with approximately 240 m of climb and is waymarked.
The route begins on a forest trail with a short flat section before a wooded ascent where exposed tree roots are present. Runners move onto a short tarmac stretch that gives way to an extended, steep lane rising for more than a mile. After that ascent the route descends onto technical wooden trails with muddy sections that may require route choices.
The course briefly retraces earlier ground before sending runners up another wooded climb. Approaching South Darley the route climbs to the Oker Trig Point, a steep 1:3 section that provides views across the valley and a line of sight to the finish. The final section follows a skyline path past the Oker Tree and includes technical descents and a final field crossing to the finish flags.
Practical details include an entry fee of £6.50, a minimum age of 16 years, a race limit of 275, and advance registration only with payment at the time of registration. The course is marked and entries are not accepted on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
