Ricky's Race
Ricky's Race is a trail event held in Darley Dale, near Matlock. The course covers a distance of 7.3 km (4.5 miles) with a total ascent of 240 m (787 ft). The route is fully marked and consists of a mix of forest trails, technical surfaces, and short tarmac sections.
The race begins with a flat section through a forest before transitioning into the first significant climb. This ascent takes place within the woods, where participants navigate terrain with numerous tree roots. The path then continues up an ever-climbing lane for over a mile. Following this, the course features a technical descent through wooded trails that may include muddy sections.
The final portion of the race includes a steep ascent to the Oker Trig Point, featuring a gradient of 1:3. This vantage point offers views over the Derwent Valley and the surrounding village. From the Trig Point, the route follows the skyline toward the Oker Tree before a final descent leads runners across a field to the finish line.
Registration is required in advance via online payment, as there are no entries available on the day of the event. The race is limited to 275 participants, and the minimum age for entry is 16 years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
