Ricky's Race - Matlock Athletic Club
Ricky's Race is a 7.3 km (4.5 miles) route near Darley Dale, nr Matlock that runs largely on forest trails and country lanes. The course gains approximately 240 m of climb and is waymarked.
The route begins through wooded trails and includes a short flat section before an initial ascent across root-strewn ground, a brief tarmac stretch and then a sustained lane climb of more than a mile. After that climb the route drops into technical wooded descents with muddy sections and rough surfaces, then briefly retraces before leading into another wooded ascent.
Leaving the trees, the course approaches South Darley but includes a final steep ascent to the Oker Trig Point with a maximum slope of about 1:3. The trig point provides clear views across the valley and sightlines to the finish. Runners follow a skyline section past the Oker Tree, then descend over technical ground, pass a final stile and run across a field to the finish flags.
Practical details: the event is on 13 August 2026 in Darley Dale, DE4 2EQ. The entry fee is £6.50. Entry requires payment at time of registration and must be completed online or in advance; there are no entries on the day. Minimum age is 16 and the race is limited to 275 runners.
