About the race
Ricky’s Race is a club-organised trail race around Darley Dale near Matlock. The course distance is 7.3 km / 4.5 miles with 240 m / 787 ft of climb. Entry is limited to 275 runners, the minimum age is 16 years and entries are taken in advance only for a fee of £7.50. The course is waymarked.
The route begins with a forest trail and a short flat section before a first wooded ascent with exposed tree roots. A short tarmac stretch leads into a sustained lane climb of more than one mile, followed by a descent across technical wooden trails with muddy sections. The route briefly retraces before another wooded ascent. Runners emerge near South Darley and tackle a final steep climb to the Oker Trig Point, a location with clear views across the valley and towards the finish. After a short skyline section past the Oker Tree there are more technical descents and a final stile before the finish flags.
Event logistics include registration at Darley Dale Cricket Club and parking at the cricket club with possible overflow parking about 600 metres away. Water is available at the finish area and at the cricket club. Results are published via the event scoring service and on the organising club pages.
