Ricky's Race : Darley Dale (13 August 2026)
Ricky's Race is an evening fell/road event organised by Matlock Athletic Club in Darley Dale, near Matlock, DE4 2EQ. The course distance is 7.3 km / 4.5 miles with a total climb of 240 m / 787 ft. The race has a limit of 275 runners and a minimum age of 16. Entry is by pre-entry only; there are no entries on the day. The stated entry fee is £6.50. The event holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA. Course marking is provided.
Course description and format
The route starts on forest trails with an initial flat section that soon leads to a woodland ascent with tree roots underfoot. A short tarmac section gives way to an extended lane climb of more than a mile, followed by a descent through technical wooden trails and muddy sections. The course partly retraces earlier paths before a further climb through woods. The final ascent rises to the Oker Trig Point on a steep 1:3 incline, from where the finish area is visible and there are views across the Derwent Valley. The closing section follows a skyline toward the Oker Tree, includes a few technical descents, crosses a final stile and finishes on a field with visible finish flags.
