Ricky's Race
Ricky's Race is organised by Matlock Athletic Club and takes place in Darley Dale, near Matlock. The event on 13 August 2026 covers approximately 7.3 km (4.5 miles) with about 240 m (787 ft) of climb. The course is marked. Entry is by advance payment only, there are no entries on the day. The published entry fee is £6.50, the minimum age is 16 years and the race limit is 275 entrants.
The route begins on a forest trail with a short flat section before a woodland ascent. The first climb includes tree roots and a short tarmac stretch that becomes an ever-climbing lane of more than a mile. Runners then descend over wooden trails with technical surfaces and muddy sections.
After briefly retracing the route, the course sends runners up another wooded ascent and out towards South Darley. A final steep climb rises to the Oker Trig Point, a 1:3 slope noted on the course, where there are views across the Derwent Valley and sightlines towards the finish. The route continues along a skyline section towards the Oker Tree, then several technical descents and a final stile lead onto the finish field and the finish flags.
