Eccles Pike Fell Race
Eccles Pike Fell Race is a short fell race that runs from Buxworth to the Pike summit and back. It dates back to the 19th century and is reputed to be one of the oldest established fell races in the country. The course is essentially a run to the top of a hill and a return to the start.
The race is classified as an AS fell race and measures 3.4M (5.4km) with a climb of 901 feet (275 m). Race headquarters are at Bugsworth War Memorial Club (SK23 7NJ). Numbers are issued on the night. The event traditionally takes place on the second Wednesday in August.
Prizes are offered to female and male runners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, and for first in the age categories V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65 and V70. Current course records for the present course layout from 2009 are 21:28 and 23:32, both recorded in 2024; the all time record on any course is 18:14 from 1980.
As part of the organising club's work on climate change, a £2 Drinks Voucher is offered to participants who travel to the race by public transport, or who walk, cycle or run to the start, or who car share with four or more people. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
