Eccles Pike Fell Race
Eccles Pike Fell Race is a historic fell race run from Buxworth to the summit of Eccles Pike and back. It is reputed to date from the 19th century and is traditionally held on the second Wednesday in August; the 2026 running is on 12 August 2026.
The event is organised as an AS fell race and covers about 3.4 miles (5.4 km) with approximately 275 m of climb (around 901 feet). Race headquarters are at the Bugsworth War Memorial Club / Buxworth Club, SK23 7NJ, with route information and a map provided by the organisers. Numbers are issued on the night.
Entry is available both before the day and on the day. Published fees are pre-entry £10 and entry on the day £12. The minimum age for entry is 16. Teams are not permitted and there are no junior races. The event holds a permit and UK Athletics insurance via the FRA.
Prizes are offered to both female and male runners for 1st to 3rd places and for first in age categories V40, V45, V50, V55, V60, V65 and V70. Reported course times include 21:28 and 23:32 from 2024 and an earlier best of 18:14 recorded in 1980. A small travel incentive of a £2 drinks voucher is available for participants who use public transport, walk, cycle, run to the start, or car share with four or more people.
