The Cairngorms Trail Marathon
The Cairngorms Trail Marathon takes place on 20 September 2026 in the Cairngorms National Park. The event is a single-loop marathon that starts and finishes at the market stance in Kingussie.
The distance is 26.2 miles, with approximately 80% trail and 20% road. Trail shoes are recommended. The course follows an initial short road section, then the Kingussie cycle path and Tromie Bridge before continuing onto trails past Killiehuntly and through Glenfeshie. Features along the route include mountain views, forest trails and river crossings.
The route includes undulating and challenging terrain. The event organiser recommends entry from people who have completed at least a half marathon and who are physically and mentally prepared for this type of course. There are no cut off times.
Start and registration take place at The Crossing, Kingussie, opposite Kingussie Railway Station. Car parking is available at The Crossing, Kingussie Railway Station, Kingussie Church and the Market Stance. The race finishes at the market stance in Kingussie where finishers receive a bespoke medal and a bespoke finisher T shirt. Additional inclusions are a group warm up led by a Fitnessat58° instructor, on site food including a BBQ and home baking provided by The Lunchbox Boys, and prizes for the top three male and top three female runners. Exclusive discounted bed and breakfast rates are offered at local hotels.
