Glenmore 24 Trail Race : overview
Glenmore 24 is a timed trail event in Glenmore Forest, near Aviemore and Loch Morlich in the Scottish Highlands. The event offers 12-hour and 24-hour options where runners complete laps of a marked loop. Each full lap is a 4 mile loop with about 400 ft of climb per loop. An optional small 400 m loop is used during the final hour for those choosing that option; these short loops are recorded with a measuring wheel. A water stop is located at the 2-mile point on the main loop. Weather in September can be severe; a mandatory and recommended kit list is issued in advance.
Course, logistics and rules
The Hayfield is used as the runners welfare and aid area. Support crew may set up around the Hayfield perimeter but are not allowed on the course; support must remain within the start-finish area. Crew allowances differ by race option: one crew member for 12-hour competitors and two crew members for 24-hour competitors. Race rules include bans on walking poles, support runners and bike buddies, and the use of NSAIDs during the event. Dogs are permitted but owners must remove waste. Mandatory kit items (not required to be carried at all times) include a foil blanket, water container, food, a working mobile with race control number, a small first aid kit and a race vest.
