Creag Dhubh Hill Race

The Creag Dhubh Hill Race takes place at The Eilan, Newtonmore, as part of the Newtonmore Highland Games on Saturday 1st August 2026. The advertised distance is 5.6 km with approximately 370 m of climb.

The route begins with a full lap of the games field before an initial scramble through a series of obstacles: two barriers, a lumpy field with thistles, two more fences, a river, rounded boulders, a very steep bank, another fence beside a crash barrier, and a road crossing. After this approach, the course follows a wide gravel track toward the birch woods of Coille na Creige Duibhe. A narrow path through grass rises to a rockier, heather-covered trail leading to the perched summit of An Torr.

The descent drops initially through heather and then along the narrow trail where overtaking is limited until lower on the slope. Competitors then re-cross the road and negotiate a similar obstacle sequence including five fences and a river before completing a final lap of the games field to the finish.

Entry details listed include an age minimum of 16 or older and an entry fee of £10. Entries open and close dates are published on the organiser platform and the event is managed through the event registration system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
