Creag Dhubh Hill Race at Newtonmore Highland Games

The Creag Dhubh Hill Race is part of the annual Newtonmore Highland Games, held on the first Saturday in August. The race runs through Highland terrain around Creag Dhubh, crossing rivers and climbing to higher ground. The course is approximately 4½ miles long with a vertical ascent of about 1,200 feet.

The Newtonmore Highland Games take place at An t’Eilean, the village shinty pitch at the south side of Newtonmore. The wider event programme includes traditional heavy events such as hammer throwing, shot put and tossing the caber, organised track and field competitions, at least three pipe bands and individual piping contests, and competitive Highland dancing. Dancing events use SOBHD judges, and track, field and heavy events run under a Scottish Athletics permit and UK Athletics rules. RSHGA athletes are eligible but must declare their SHGA registration when entering.

Other festival elements on the field include a Clan Macpherson march and gathering, craft stalls, fairground rides, food vendors, whisky tastings, a haggis-eating contest and a veterans shinty match on an adjacent field. Parking is available next to the arena. Admission prices are stated for adults, children, seniors and family tickets, and tickets may be bought online or at the gates with card or cash. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
