Creag Dhubh Hill Race

Creag Dhubh Hill Race is the standout uphill challenge at Newtonmore Highland Games in Newtonmore, Scotland. The race takes place at The Eilan, Newtonmore’s shinty pitch, on the first Saturday in August. Known as “The Ultimate Challenge,” it winds through the Highlands’ rugged terrain, with competitors crossing rivers, climbing ascents, and returning to the arena.

The course covers about 4½ miles with around 1,200 feet of vertical gain. As part of the Games, spectators enjoy a full festival atmosphere—heavies, pipe bands, dancing, and the Clan Macpherson Gathering from across the Highlands—while watching athletes tackle the demanding hill route.
