Creag Dhubh Hill Race
The Creag Dhubh Hill Race is held at The Eilan, Newtonmore, as part of the Newtonmore Highland Games. The course covers approximately 5.6 km with around 370 m of ascent.
The route begins with a full lap of the games field before progressing toward the hill via a rough obstacle sequence that includes barriers, fences, a lumpy field of thistles, a river crossing, rounded boulders and a steep bank, plus a road crossing. After this initial scramble the race continues on a wide gravel track into the birch woods of Coille na Creige Duibhe, then on a narrow grassy path that rises into a rockier heather trail up to the perched summit of An Torr.
The return follows the same line in reverse, descending through heather and the narrow trail before the road crossing and the obstacle sequence on the lower ground, finishing with a final lap of the games field.
Entries open on 28 February 2026 and close on 30 July 2026. Minimum age for entry is 16 years or older. Entry fee is £10. The event is listed within the programme of the Newtonmore Highland Games. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
