Creag Dhubh Hill Race

Creag Dhubh Hill Race is a hill running event held at The Eilan in Newtonmore as part of the Newtonmore Highland Games. The course covers 5.6 km with approximately 370 m of ascent and includes both field and mountain terrain. The route begins with a full lap of the games field and then passes through a sequence of obstacles before the main climb. These initial obstacles include two barriers, rough lumpy ground with thistles, additional fences, a river crossing, rounded boulders, and a very steep bank next to a crash barrier and a road crossing.

After the scramble the route follows a wide gravel track toward the birch woods of Coille na Creige Duibhe. A narrow grass path leads upward to a rockier trail through heather that reaches the perched summit of An Torr. The return is primarily down heather and the narrow trail, where overtaking is limited until lower sections. Runners then cross the road again, negotiate a further series of fences and a river, and finish with a final lap of the games field.

Eligibility requires participants to be 16 or older. Entries are open from 28 February 2026 until 30 July 2026. The published entry fee is £10. Course records are listed as 26:49 for men (2019) and 32:21 for women (2006). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
