Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot is a mountain running event held in County Down. Scheduled for Saturday, 26th December 2026, the race takes place on technical mountain terrain. Participants follow a course that covers a total distance of 7.50 km and involves a total ascent of 400 meters.
The event is categorized with a difficulty rating of 3 (1,1,1). This classification indicates that the course typically features easy terrain, though it exceeds the standard metrics for the simplest category due to the specific climb and distance requirements. Race marking is minimal, with indicators placed only at major junctions along the route. The use of GPS devices for navigation is not permitted during the event.
Safety regulations require all participants to carry specific mandatory kit (Level B). This equipment includes a waterproof jacket, a hat or buff, and gloves. Additionally, runners must carry a whistle, a foil blanket or bivvy bag, and a fully charged mobile phone with the designated emergency number stored. The event is organized by the Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association (NIMRA). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
