Castlewellan Christmas Cracker 2026
The Castlewellan Christmas Cracker is a pairs team race held in Castlewellan on 28 December. Entry is online through SiEntries, with entries opening on 23 October and a waiting list used if the event sells out. Entry is limited to 750 teams and there are no on-the-day entries.
The course is approximately 8.5 miles and runs on a mix of roads, fields and forest tracks in and around Castlewellan. There is a marshalled cut-off at about 4 miles for safety. The route includes hilly and muddy sections and some trail; there are no water stations on course so runners should carry any drinks they need. Trail shoes are recommended. All runners must be over 16; dogs, headphones and prams are not allowed.
Teams consist of two runners who must finish together. Team numbers are collected at Castlewellan GAC (21 Circular Road); registration opens the day before and on race day at the GAA club. Team changes and entry transfers can be made through SiEntries up to specified deadlines; refunds are available up to 25 December less a 20% admin charge.
All finishers receive a medal designed by the club’s junior members. Soup and rolls are provided afterwards at the Community Centre opposite the GAA club. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three teams in Men, Women and Mixed categories, with additional age-category prizes and spot prizes for fancy dress.
