The Bull Mountain Epic
The Bull Mountain Epic is a trail running event in Dahlonega, GA, organized by DUMAssEvents. It uses the Jake and Bull Mountain Trail system, which is made up of three distinct loops of roughly 10 miles each.
Distances include:
- 50K - three roughly 10 mile loops; about 5000 ft total elevation gain
- Half Marathon - one loop up and over Bull Mountain plus some double track
The route is mostly runnable single track with some technical sections. Trail features include waterfalls, multiple stream crossings, rocky climbs, and fast descents. After each loop runners pass the main aid station and the start/finish area. There are three aid stations stocked with vegetarian friendly options such as soups and fruits, some hot foods prepared in the evening, standard aid station fare, and volunteer specialties served until the last finisher.
Event logistics note that the forest service road to the Bull Mountain parking area has large ruts and holes in spots; low clearance vehicles may find it difficult to navigate those sections. There is a 12 hour cut-off for the event, and all 50K runners must be on the third loop by mid-afternoon. Pacers are not permitted. Awards are given to the top three female and top three male finishers in each event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
