Green Street Santa Sprint - Gainesville
The Green Street Santa Sprint is a community running event held on Historic Green Street in Gainesville, Georgia. The course starts at the corner of Holly Drive and Green Street (781 Green St). Participants commonly wear a green Santa suit while running past decorated historic homes and oak trees with Christmas lights.
The event program takes place alongside the City of Gainesville's Christmas on Green Street celebration. The celebration includes a parade of antique cars, holiday floats, and marching bands that proceed from the Gainesville Civic Center down Green Street. Before the parade, Green Street is closed to allow visitors to view historic homes and to enjoy live porch performances and street entertainment.
Street-level activities listed for the evening include musical groups performing on front porches, magicians, face painters, balloon artists, a storyteller, jugglers, Santa Claus, miniature train rides, and food trucks. The night concludes with the Lighting of the Rotary Tree at the intersection of Green Street and West Academy Street.
