The Bridge Run
The Bridge Run is an annual, rain or shine event held on the Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick. The bridge measures 7,780 foot in length and reaches about 480 feet above the Brunswick River at its center.
The event is certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association. The 5K course sends runners up the bridge, with a climb of about 200 vertical feet within three quarters of a mile (a grade greater than six percent), then back down the same span. The 10K Double Pump requires runners to cross the bridge twice. A First Responders team challenge is contested by teams of three, using the average of individual times to determine the best team. Walkers use the same 5K course.
The weekend includes a Power Up Party and Vendor Expo on the Friday before the run and a family-friendly festival after the races with community vendors, food, entertainment and children’s activities. Proceeds support the Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation’s cancer care programs; proceeds from 5K walk registrations support cardiac care programs. The event relies on a large volunteer base, with more than 200 volunteers noted in past editions.
Past participation and fundraising examples include over 2,200 registered participants and more than $48,000 raised in 2020. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
