Under the Helmet 5K Run
The Under the Helmet 5K Run and Fun Run is a community athletic event held in Brunswick, Georgia. Organized by the Pilot Club of Brunswick, the event utilizes the historic downtown area for its courses. The primary route takes participants through the historic district, with the start and finish lines located near the intersection of Mansfield and Newcastle streets by Queen's Square.
Participants can choose from two distinct distances:
- 5 km run
- 1 mile fun run or walk
The event supports the initiatives of the local Pilot Club, a volunteer service organization. This organization focuses on brain safety, health awareness, and supporting individuals with brain injuries and their caregivers. Specific programs linked to this cause include BrainMinders, which provides safety education to children and adults, and a safety helmet project that distributes free helmets to youth.
Awards are presented for overall performance and within specific age groups. Participants who complete their registration by December 15th are guaranteed an event t-shirt. The proceeds from the race help fund community efforts such as medical scholarships for high school seniors, support for Memory Matters, and appreciation programs for local caregivers.
