The Big Pilgrimage

The Big Pilgrimage is a point-to-point mixed terrain running event that follows the start of a newly discovered Pilgrim Trail called "The Old Way," identified on the Gough Map c.1360. The route uses coastal and countryside trails from Mayflower Park in Southampton and finishes at different locations depending on distance.

• 15 Mile - point-to-point from Mayflower Park to Titchfield Abbey.
• Marathon - point-to-point from Mayflower Park to Boundary Oak School near Wickham.

Runners cross the Hamble River by boat at Hamble foreshore, after collecting a bag of BigFeat Pick 'N' Mix sweets, and continue around the coast to Titchfield Haven. The course passes pilgrimage landmarks including Netley Castle, Netley Abbey, The Chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park, and Titchfield Abbey; participants collect a sticker at each landmark to make a collectable race bib.

Prebooked coach transport to the start is available from the finish locations for a fee of £10; the deadline to add this to a booking is 16/08/26. Parking and coach pick-up locations are The Great Barn, Mill Lane, Titchfield PO15 5RB for the 15 mile finish and Boundary Oak School, Roche Court, Wickham Rd, Fareham PO17 5BL for the marathon finish. There is no car parking at Titchfield Abbey.

Mandatory kit requirements include carrying at least 500ml of fluid and wearing clothing appropriate for conditions. Organisers advise downloading the GPX file of the route. A bag drop is provided at each start and bags are transported to the finish. Canicross entries are not accepted. Runners may opt to have a tree planted instead of receiving a finishers medal.
