Vacation Isle, Mission Bay - Sprint orienteering
Vacation Isle sits at the center of Mission Bay in San Diego. The site is an island connected to the mainland by a single road, with open lawns, shaded trees, sandy beaches and bay breezes. The setting is noted for its waterfront views on summer mornings.
The event uses the Sprint format and offers three courses: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. A detailed map will be used at scale 1:4000 with 2.5 m contour intervals. To increase participation, organizers offer two separate start windows; participants select a window and then choose a course. The event is limited to 100 participants total, with up to 50 entries per start window.
Electronic punching will be used; all participants must bring, rent, or purchase an e-punch. Rental e-punches will be available for $5. Controls will be AIR+ enabled. The time limit for each run is one hour; competitors must return to headquarters and download within that limit so officials can confirm safety. Volunteers will search the course for anyone who does not check in.
An introductory clinic will be offered before the starts. All participants must pre-register and follow the event registration policies. Fees are $20 for adults and $10 for juniors under 21, with a $5 early bird discount available through June 27. Headquarters is located at coordinates 32°46'20.9"N 117°14'02.6"W. There is ample parking at the park. Volunteers may receive up to a $20 credit toward a race registration fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
