Vacation Isle - Traditional Orienteering, Mission Bay, San Diego
Vacation Isle is an island site in Mission Bay connected to the mainland by a single road and bordered by water on all sides. The venue features open lawns, shaded trees, sandy beaches, and bay breezes. Parking is available at the park and the event headquarters location is to be determined.
The event uses the Traditional orienteering format and offers three courses: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. A map at scale 1:4000 with 2.5 m contour intervals will be used. Electronic punching is required; controls will be AIR+ enabled and rental electronic punches are available for a fee. There is a two-hour time limit for competitors, and all participants must return to headquarters and download by the stated deadline so organizers can confirm safety.
Participation is limited to 75 entrants and all competitors must pre-register. Published fees list $20 for adults and $10 for juniors under 21, with a $5 early bird discount available through June 27. Additional event policies follow standard San Diego Orienteering procedures. An introductory clinic will be offered before the event for those new to orienteering. Volunteers may receive credits toward race registration fees.
