Coronado Low Tide Ride and Stride
The event is a chip-timed 5K held on the beach in Coronado during the lowest tide of the month. The course runs along the shoreline from North Beach down to the end of the Shores and back, with the finish area at Sunset Park in Coronado.
The program includes both running and biking options with separate age categories for participants under 18 and for adults. Bicycle riders under 18 are required to wear a helmet, and the same laws that regulate minors on city streets also apply on city beaches. The event is presented as family friendly and includes post-event activities at Sunset Park such as live music, food vendors, and local vendor booths.
Organizers use the 5K course to avoid running through the Amphibious Base in order to protect nesting grounds for the Least Tern and Snowy Plover, species noted as endangered. The event notes that nesting season runs March to September and that keeping the beach course away from protected areas supports those conservation concerns.
The event also identifies local military and first responders as primary beneficiaries of funds raised by the ride and stride. This gathering marks the 29th anniversary of the Low Tide Ride and Stride. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
