About the race
The MLK Jr. Freedom Run is scheduled for January 16, 2027 at Liberty Station in San Diego. The event takes place on Martin Luther King Jr.
Day and is presented as a community run to mark Dr. King’s legacy of justice and equality. The organizer stages multiple distance options and a family mile fun run, and also offers a virtual run option that includes a digital training pack. Waves are used and each wave has a cap; waves are filled on a first come first serve basis.
Timing is optional: participants may track time with apps and submit results via the organizer’s form for online posting. The event does not use timing chips. Race bibs are provided on race day and coordinators support participants during the run.
Swag is shipped to the US mailing address given at registration; items listed include a running T shirt, a finisher’s towel or giveaway, a finisher’s medal, and a digital training pack. A technical running shirt is available as an optional $5 upgrade. Shirts are shipped the week of the race; late registrants may receive shirts after the event. Additional notes: online results and a certificate of completion are provided, local running clubs are invited to participate, volunteers are organized for community runs, and the organizer donates $1 per mile logged after the race to selected charities.
