Thankful Paws Turkey Trot
Thankful Paws Turkey Trot is presented as the first annual Thanksgiving morning event at Rohr Park in Bonita, Chula Vista, CA (4548 Sweetwater Rd, 91902). The event recognizes past and present pets and takes place on a scenic course that runs alongside a golf course and community park.
Distances offered include:
- 5K
- 10K
- Dog Mile
- Kids 1 Mile
The 5K consists of one loop around the course. The 10K consists of two loops; 10K runners may encounter 5K participants later on the course. Participants running or walking with dogs should stay on the inside of the course while 10K runners complete the second loop. Runners passing others are asked to pass on the right and move around.
The Dog Mile is held as a tribute to pets. Dogs must be on a 3 to 5 foot leash, participants are advised to bring doggy bags and water, and all dogs receive a finisher medal. For a Dog Mile result to be recorded, the dog must finish ahead of its owner or handler. The Kids 1 Mile is for children 12 and under; parents may run with their children and all kids receive a finisher medal.
Registration fees listed by the organizer are $40 for the 5K, $55 for the 10K, and $25 for each mile event. Proceeds benefit Kanes K9s & Animal Rescue. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
