About the Event
The Tarpley 10 and 20 is an established running event named after Bert Tarpley, an early member and former president of the Saint Edmund Pacers. The event offers two distances: 10 miles and 20 miles. The course is run on gently undulating country lanes through the Suffolk countryside.
Race Information
The event takes place on Sunday, 22 February 2026. The 20-mile race starts at 10:30am and the 10-mile race starts at 11:30am. Both races start and finish at the Race HQ, Thurston Sixth Beyton Campus in Beyton, near Bury St Edmunds. The course uses open, lightly trafficked roads and is marshaled and signed. The use of any audio equipment, including bone-conducting headphones, is not permitted.
Registration & Details
Entry opened on 7 October 2025. Registration fees are £23 for affiliated runners and £25 for unaffiliated runners for the 10-mile race. For the 20-mile race, fees are £27 for affiliated and £29 for unaffiliated runners. A finisher's long-sleeve top is available for collection after the race. Both races are currently sold out, but a waitlist is available. There are no entries on the day.
Age Restrictions:
- 10-mile race: Participants must be 17 or over on race day.
- 20-mile race: Participants must be 18 or over on race day.
Facilities & Logistics
The event is chip-timed. Race number collection is available at Race HQ on the Saturday before the event and on race morning. There is a large, official car park at the venue. Toilets, baggage facilities, a help desk, and post-race refreshments are provided. There are three water stations on the 10-mile course and five on the 20-mile course, with water also available at the finish.
Awards & Records
Trophies are awarded for the first three male and female finishers, various veteran age categories, and first male and female teams. A £100 cash prize is offered for setting a new course record for either distance. The current 10-mile records are held by Jack Nixon (52:27) and Claire Jacobs (58:42). The 20-mile records are held by Ian Allen (1:45:31) and Sarah Bird (2:00:49). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
