Tampa Bay 100
The Tampa Bay 100 is the third year of a point to point urban ultramarathon covering 100 miles across the Tampa Bay area. The route begins in Ybor City and finishes in St. Petersburg near the 11th Avenue Pier at Vinoy Park, passing Safety Harbor, Dunedin, Clearwater, Gulf Boulevard and Gulfport along the way.
The course is mostly flat with several bridges and a total elevation gain of about 1,165 feet and an overall loss of about 1,218 feet. Navigation uses a mix of directional cards and the CalTopo App; the event requires runners to carry a phone, the directions sheet, at least one water bottle of 20 oz or more, a headlamp with spare batteries, reflective gear and blinking lights for running in the dark, and the CalTopo App on their phone.
There are five staffed aid stations located at Courtney Campbell, Cooper’s Bayou, Dunedin, Indian Rocks Beach and Gulfport. Aid stations will offer drinks, snacks, basic medical supplies and some personal hygiene items. Several supplies caches are placed between aid stations. Drop bags are available at the Dunedin aid station and the Gulfport aid station and have size and labeling rules; runners are advised that drop bag contents may not be immediately retrievable after the aid station packs up.
Crews and pacers are permitted but must follow event rules on parking, vehicle behavior and night visibility. Pacers may join after the Courtney Campbell Causeway and up to two pacers are allowed at night. There are hard cutoffs at Dunedin and Gulfport and an overall 36.5 hour cutoff for official finishers. The event is presented as a self guided endurance tour rather than a competitive road race, with finish times recorded and awards for top finishers and finishers.
