Event Details

The Tamalpa Headlands 50K is a single-loop ultramarathon founded in 1998, held in Marin County, California. The event takes place on August 15, 2026. A Kids' One Mile Challenge is also part of the event.

Course and Setting

The course is a 50-kilometer trail race featuring approximately 6,500 feet of elevation gain. It uses many of Marin County's trails, including Coastal, Miwok, Steep Ravine, Matt Davis, and Dipsea. The terrain includes fast fire roads, steep climbs, flowy singletrack, and technical sections, with views of the Bay Area and Pacific Ocean. The start and finish location is Santos Meadow, just south of Muir Woods.

Race Logistics

The start time for the 50K race is 7:30 AM. There are several aid stations along the course at Rodeo Beach, Tennessee Valley-East, Highway1, Cardiac (first and second pass), and Stinson Beach. The event has a 10-hour time limit, with specific cutoffs at aid stations. Registration closes on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. A refund of 50% is available for withdrawals by June 30, 2026; no refunds are given after that date. There are no rollovers or exchanges. Runners must carry their own cup or hydration device, as it is a cup-free race with no disposable cups at aid stations. Dogs are not allowed at Santos Meadows.

The event will feature a $10,000 podium purse. It is part of the USATFPA Grand Prix for 2026 but will not be the USATF 50k Trail Championship.
