5K Run for Brandon Lee & Land Defenders

This event is a non-competitive 5K fundraiser taking place in San Francisco on August 29, 2026 at Upper Great Highway and Lincoln Way. It is organized by ICHRP NorCal and the Defend Negros Island Coalition and aims to raise funds and awareness in support of land defenders in the Philippines and long-term care for the environmental advocate the event honors.

The activity is described as family friendly and pet friendly, and it accommodates walking, running, and rolling. Registration is free, with a suggested donation of $25 and a recommended personal fundraising goal of $100. Same day registration is available. Participants may register individually or form teams with community groups.

Route options include:

  • 1 mile route
  • 2 mile route
  • 5K route along the Great Highway

Registered participants receive a running bib, a zine titled Justice for Brandon, and Cordillera-inspired temporary tattoos. The event also lists practical ways for organizations and businesses to support, including volunteering, organizing teams of runners, providing merchandise or refreshments, and publicizing the event flyer.

The run began in 2024 and this edition also marks the seventh anniversary of an assassination attempt by the Armed Forces of the Philippines against the advocate the run supports. The event is dedicated to victims of the Toboso massacre and to broader efforts for justice and land rights in the Philippines. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
