Take Flight 5k
The Take Flight 5k is an annual running event held at the Greenville Downtown Airport. This event takes place on the airport runway, providing a flat surface for participants. The 2026 edition marks the 13th anniversary of the race, which is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend in Greenville, South Carolina.
The event features two primary distances:
- 5 km
- 1 mile
The course is located at 21 Airport Road Ext. Before the races begin, a ceremony is held to honor fallen veterans. The Civil Air Patrol conducts a missing comrade ceremony as part of these proceedings. While strollers and walkers are permitted on the course, pets are not allowed to participate in the race.
Participants can pick up their bibs and shirts at the loop between Takeoff Minigolf and the Museum on Thursday and Friday afternoons, or on the morning of the event. Prizes and awards are distributed between specific races. In the 5 km race, awards are given to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three finishers in age categories ranging from 0 to over 80. The 1 mile race recognizes the top three male and female finishers overall and the top three in several youth age categories.
All proceeds from the registration fees and fundraising activities are dedicated to the maintenance and improvement of Runway Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
