Event details
The Take Flight 5k & 1 Mile Run is held on Memorial Day weekend at Greenville Downtown Airport in Greenville, South Carolina (21 Airport Road Ext., Greenville, SC 29607). The event includes two distances:
- 5k
- 1 Mile
The course uses the airport runway. Strollers and walkers are allowed; pets are not allowed. The program includes a small ceremony to honor fallen veterans, a parachute team jump in the national colors, and a missing comrade ceremony conducted by the Civil Air Patrol. The Greenville City Fire Department will participate by running the one mile in full gear. Costumes and competition are encouraged, and official groups will be publicly recognized. Prizes are given between races.
Logistics and awards
Entry fees listed are $10 for the 5k and $5 for the 1 Mile; prices increase after January 29, 2026. Packet pickup is available on the Thursday and Friday before race day in the late afternoon (4:00pm to 7:00pm) at the loop between Takeoff Minigolf and the Museum, and on race morning in the early window (6:30am to 7:45am). The 5k awards top three male and female overall and top three in multiple age groups from 0-9 through 80+. The 1 Mile awards top three male and female overall and top three in youth age groups (1-9, 10-12, 13-16, 17-19). All proceeds and fundraising go to Runway Park maintenance and improvements.
