Swinner Swagger : Muker, 4 July 2026
Swinner Swagger is an upland trail race of approximately 15.5 km / 9.6 miles around the valley north of Muker. Race HQ and parking are at Usha Gap Campsite with the car park in a field adjacent to the campsite; what3words ///momentous.sour.sandwich is given as a reference point.
The route starts in the meadows north of Muker and follows Hartlakes valley to Kisdon Force near Keld. Runners cross the river by a footbridge, pass Crackpot Hall, then climb Swinner Gill to a water station. A track descends through Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet, joins the Pennine Way along the River Swale, passes through flower meadows and finishes near Rampsholme footbridge. There are some sections of shooting track and a short stretch of tarmac, so a trail shoe is recommended.
Aid stations provide water, Active Root, sweet and savoury food and limited electrolyte drinks; the organisers do not provide plastic cups so runners should carry a cup or soft flask. Mandatory kit includes taped seam waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy bag, a cup or soft flask, at least 500 ml of water and a fully charged mobile phone. Spot checks will be carried out and failure to have mandatory kit may lead to disqualification.
Toilets are available at the car park only. Post race refreshments at Usha Gap include a hot drink, vegetable soup and a roll. The event has an age limit of 16 plus and a maximum field of 100 runners. Course markings use orange tape, pin flags and coloured arrows with marshals at critical points.
