The route is approximately 15.5 km (9.6 miles) and follows the Hartlakes valley north to Kisdon Force, crosses a footbridge near Keld, climbs Swinner Gill, descends Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet, then joins the Pennine Way along the River Swale back to finish near Rampsholme footbridge. Terrain includes grassy paths, shooting tracks and short road/tarmac sections. Trail shoes are recommended. The start area is about 1.5 miles from the car park and race HQ.

Facilities and safety

The course is marked with orange tape, pin flags and coloured arrows, and critical turns and road crossings are manned by marshals.
