Course Overview
The Swinner Swagger is a roughly 15.5 km (9.6 mile) trail run held in the Yorkshire Dales, starting in the meadows north of the village of Muker. The route heads north to Keld, crossing the river at Kisdon Force. It then passes Crackpot Hall before a climb up Swinner Gill to a water station. A descent follows Gunnerside Gill down to Ivelet, where the course joins the Pennine Way to follow the River Swale and pass through flower meadows before finishing near Rampsholme footbridge.
Event Information
The event base is Usha Gap Campsite, a short walk from the start. The race start area is 1.5 miles from the parking and registration area. The route is marked with orange barrier tape, pin flags, and colored arrows at trail junctions, with marshals at critical points like road crossings.
Aid stations provide water, Active Root, sweet and savoury food, and some electrolyte drinks. Runners must carry their own cup, soft flask, or bladder as no plastic cups are provided. Post-race refreshments include a hot drink, vegetable soup, and a roll.
Kit and Requirements
There is a mandatory kit list. It includes taped seam waterproof jacket and trousers, a hat or buff, gloves, an emergency blanket or bivvy bag, a cup or soft flask, a minimum of 500ml of water, and a fully charged mobile phone. Kit spot checks will be performed.
The course involves trail, shooting track, and some tarmac. Trail shoes are recommended. The route is exposed and breezy at its highest points. The event has an age limit of 16+ and is limited to 100 runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
