DalesRunner 30km is an upland trail race held in and around Muker with Race HQ at Usha Gap Campsite, a short walk from the start. Parking is planned in a field adjacent to the campsite and registration takes place in the parking field. what3words location is ///momentous.sour.sandwich.
The course is roughly 31.7 km / 19.7 miles and rises almost 3,000 ft to reach the Tan Hill Inn. The route starts from meadows north of Muker and follows Hartlakes to Kisdon Force, then joins the Coast to Coast path to Ravenseat where a water station is located. From there it crosses open moor passing Robert’s Seat and Thomas Gill Hill to Tan Hill where an aid station is provided. The return follows the Pennine Way back via Kisdon waterfalls, passes Crackpot Hall, climbs Swinner Gill to the final water station, and descends Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet before rejoining the Pennine Way along the River Swale to finish near Rampsholme footbridge.
Trail shoes are recommended because surfaces are mainly grass with some shooting tracks and a short stretch of tarmac. The course will be waymarked with orange tape, pin flags and coloured arrows and key junctions will be marshalled. Runners are advised to carry a map as markings can be moved.
There is a mandatory kit list and spot checks may be carried out; missing mandatory kit can lead to disqualification. Mandatory items include taped seam waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy bag, a cup or soft flask, a minimum of 500 ml water and a fully charged mobile phone. Toilets are available at the village hall during registration and portable toilets will be in the start field. Post race refreshments at Usha Gap include a hot drink, vegetable soup and a roll. The event is restricted to entrants aged 18 and over, with a limit of 200 runners.
