DalesRunner 30 : Muker, Yorkshire Dales
The event is an upland trail race of roughly 31.7 km / 19.7 miles with almost 3,000 ft of ascent. The route starts from meadows north of Muker, follows Hartlakes valley and the Coast to Coast path to Ravenseat, crosses remote moorland to the Tan Hill Inn, then returns via sections of the Pennine Way, climbs Swinner Gill and finishes through Swaledale flower meadows near the Rampsholme footbridge.
Race headquarters and parking are at Usha Gap Campsite, a short walk from the start; the start area is about 1.5 miles from the car park. The surface is predominantly grass with some shooting tracks and a short stretch of tarmac, so trail shoes are recommended.
Aid stations are positioned at Ravenseat, Tan Hill and near Swinner Gill, and will offer water, sports drink (Active Root), sweet and savoury food and a small amount of electrolyte drink. No disposable cups are provided at aid stations; marshals can assist with refilling bottles. Portable toilets are available at the car park only. Post-race refreshments at the campsite include a hot drink, vegetable soup and a roll.
Mandatory kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy, a cup or soft flask, at least 500 ml water at the start and a fully charged mobile phone. Spot kit checks may be carried out and failure to carry mandatory kit can lead to disqualification.
The event is limited to 200 entrants and has an age limit of 18 and over. Runners are asked to remain on marked trails, respect marshals and other participants and to carry their own route map. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
