Blacksheep 3 and 6 Hour Challenge - Masham
The Blacksheep Challenge is a looped trail event held near Masham on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales, organised by Its Grim Up North Running. Participants choose between two timed formats and complete as many laps as they wish within their chosen window, then finish by ringing a bell and collecting a medal, a beer and a sausage sandwich with alcohol-free and vegetarian options.
The course is mainly off road with some road sections, includes stiles and gates, and one steady climb so is described as "flat(ish)". Feed and drink stations are provided approximately every three miles, and the route is marshalled and signed. Downloadable GPX files are available for navigation and not every junction will have a marshal; there may be unmarshalled road crossings.
Event services include a bespoke finisher medal and additional treats, toilets at the town market square, and on-site parking on a field with a £5 parking charge donated to local charity (cash preferred). The races are licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA rules. Organisers operate a largely cup-less policy at feed stations and restrict large over-ear headphones, recommending bone conduction or single-ear in-ear use if required. Transfers and deferrals can be managed online.
