Swim the Lake Festival - Ardingly Reservoir
The Swim the Lake Festival takes place on 03 Jun 2026 at Ardingly Reservoir, Ardingly RH17 6SQ. The event is organised by Mid-Sussex Triathlon Club with support from Sussex Search & Rescue. The aquathlon is run under British Triathlon safety guidelines.
The swim course is triangular, located on the western side of the reservoir and marked with large yellow buoys. The route leaves the Activity Centre, proceeds to the middle of the water, follows the far side and returns in front of the main wall. The surrounding countryside and Ardingly College are visible from the course and from spectator areas.
Distances and minimum ages:
- 3km, 4 laps, minimum age 18 years
- 1.5km, 2 laps, minimum age 15 years
- 750m, 1 lap, minimum age 15 years
- Aquathlon, 750m swim and 5km run, minimum age 17 years
Activity Centre support craft and lifeguards will be on duty. Timing is manual with water entry and exit recorded; the aquathlon additionally records run finish. Wetsuit use is governed by water temperature and specific rules; swimmers without wetsuits must use a tow float. Competitors under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult who remains on site and reports to the welfare office.
Online entry is available until the listed closing date; entries on the day are not available. Facilities include toilets; there are no changing or shower facilities. Parking is at the reservoir with overflow at Ardingly College; organisers ask that vehicles do not block the entry road. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
