Swammie Shuffle 200
The Swammie Shuffle 200 is a 200-mile out-and-back ultramarathon on February 28, 2027, based in Virginia Beach, VA. The route begins at Sandbridge Beach and continues south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, then returns the same way.
The course includes about the first and last 20 miles on beach between Sandbridge Beach, VA and Corolla, NC. Between those beach sections runners travel on sidewalks and road shoulders through the Outer Banks. There are three lighthouses on the route: Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras, with Cape Hatteras serving as the turnaround point. Participants may see wild horses in the Corolla area. The final miles before the finish run through a back bay refuge where access is restricted from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.
Support and logistics follow specific rules: riding in a moving vehicle is not allowed, though entry into a stationary vehicle is permitted; course marking by participants is not allowed. The race does not provide aid, so participants are responsible for their own support; several stretches have no stores for roughly 20 miles. Volunteers can pick up runners who cannot continue. Sleep locations and timing are the runner's responsibility. Only 30 open participant spots are available for in-person entry.
All funds raised are divided between Awareness N Action and Mission22 to support veteran suicide prevention and related veteran services. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
