Event overview
Swammie Shuffle 200 is a long-distance running event in Virginia Beach, VA, scheduled for February 22–27, 2026. The advertised distance is 200+ miles. The course begins at Sandbridge Beach (3713 Sandpiper Road) and goes south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, then returns to the start. Runners are given five and a half days to complete the course. Registration closes February 21, 2026. There are 22 open in-person spots and a waitlist for additional participants.
Course and race rules
The first and last roughly 20 miles are on beach sand between Sandbridge Beach and Corolla. Between those sections runners use sidewalks and road shoulders through the Outer Banks. The route passes three lighthouses: Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras (the turnaround point). The final miles before the finish run through a back bay refuge; access to the refuge is restricted during nighttime hours relative to sunset and sunrise. Support is not provided by the race; participants are responsible for their own aid and sleep arrangements. Support crews are allowed but riders may not travel in moving vehicles or mark the course. Volunteers can remove or transport runners who are unable to continue.
Fundraising purpose
All funds raised from the event are allocated to Awareness N Action and Mission22, organizations that focus on veteran suicide prevention and related veteran issues. The event description cites veteran suicide statistics and frames the race as a fundraiser and awareness effort. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
