Swammie Shuffle 200
The Swammie Shuffle 200 is an ultramarathon and fundraiser held in Virginia Beach, VA. The event is organized to raise awareness and funds for veteran suicide prevention and related veteran services, with 100 percent of funds divided between Awareness N Action and Mission22.
The course is an out-and-back of more than 200 miles. Runners start at Sandbridge Beach, run south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, then return to the start. The route includes three lighthouses at Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras. The first and last roughly 20 miles follow beach terrain between Sandbridge Beach and Corolla. Much of the middle section is on sidewalks and shoulders through stretches where towns and stores can be about 20 miles apart. The final miles before the finish run on a beach in the back bay refuge; runners cannot be on the refuge from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.
The race provides minimal support. Participants may not ride in a vehicle during the run, though they may be in a non moving vehicle briefly. The event does not supply aid stations and recommends personal support crews. Volunteers are available to retrieve runners who cannot continue. There are 30 open spots for in person participation.
