Swammie Shuffle 200
The Swammie Shuffle 200 is a 200 mile ultramarathon held February 28, 2027 in Virginia Beach, VA. The route begins at Sandbridge Beach and continues more than 100 miles south through the Outer Banks of North Carolina to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which serves as the turnaround point, and then returns to the start.
The first and last roughly 20 miles run along beach between Sandbridge Beach, VA and Corolla, NC. Between those sections the course follows sidewalks and road shoulders through the Outer Banks and passes three lighthouses: Corolla, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras. Wild horses in Corolla may be visible along parts of the route. Runners are not allowed on the back bay refuge from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise.
Support is the responsibility of the participant. The event does not provide aid; participants may have personal support crews but may not ride in moving vehicles or mark the course. It is possible to be transported by event volunteers if a runner cannot continue. There are stretches of about 20 miles with no stores, and participants must plan for sleep and resupply on their own. Entry is limited to 30 in person participants.
All funds raised by the event are divided between Awareness N Action and Mission22, charities focused on veteran suicide prevention and related veteran issues. The event commemorates a Marine veteran who died on February 28, 2020 and aims to raise awareness and resources for veterans facing post traumatic stress and depression.
