Santa Claus Shuffle - Portsmouth
The Santa Claus Shuffle is an annual community running event in Olde Towne Portsmouth that features a race atmosphere with holiday elements and family-oriented activities. The event includes two distances:
- 5K Race
- 1 Mile Fun Run
Check-in and packet pickup are handled at the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion, 16 Crawford Circle, Portsmouth, VA 23704. Nearby parking options are listed for participants, including the 714 Court Street lot, the 700 Crawford Street lot, and the County Street Garage.
The event supports Tidewater Youth Services Foundation programs that provide "quality of life" resources such as clothing for interviews, team-building experiences, ropes courses, tutoring, independent-living skills training, and mentoring. Fundraising elements include participant-created pages and a stocking stuffer drive to assist youth served by the foundation.
Awards and participant items are provided: all 5K registrants receive finisher medals and a t-shirt while supplies last; the 1 Mile receives a participation award. 5K overall awards recognize the top male and female in each age category. Complimentary refreshments are provided.
Race-day features emphasize a festive atmosphere: a coffee and hot chocolate bar, a DJ, visits from Santa and Ms. Claus, a photo booth, encouraged holiday costumes, and face painting. The event also offers local business promotions tied to race bibs in Olde Towne Portsmouth. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
