Dismal Swamp 50K, Marathon, Half Marathon and 50K Relay

This event offers multiple road race options on USATF certified courses in Chesapeake, VA, with a central rest stop at mile post 4 of the Dismal Swamp. The courses are looped and out-and-back sections: the 50K uses a 3.88-mile out-and-back section repeated four times; the marathon is two loops of a 6.55-mile out-and-back section, and the half marathon is one loop of that section. A nine hour overall time limit applies for finishers.

Aid and nutrition are provided. There is a full aid station at the start/finish after every loop with food, water and nutrition drinks. Additional water stations are set up on the marathon course; manned stations operate during marathon operations and an unmanned water station will be left near the 50K turnaround once marathon services conclude.

Participant items and post-race provisions are specified: finishers receive a medal; a hoodie for the 50K; long sleeve shirts for the marathon and half marathon; Boston qualifiers receive a BQ shirt. A Beer Garden and pizza are listed among post-race amenities, with alternate drink redemption available at a local brewery for those who finish after the garden closes.

Registration details vary by event, with most openings in May and some entry windows in August or November. Race day registration is available up to the race start. Packet pickup includes a pre-race day location on December 5 and race day pickup at the start area.
