Overview
The Surf Coast Trail Marathon returns for its 12th edition in 2026, offering a series of trail runs along Victoria’s Surf Coast. Located an hour south-west of Melbourne, the event follows the Surf Coast Walk, a route that connects several coastal landmarks between Torquay and Fairhaven. The course is characterized as relatively non-technical and non-mountainous, making it accessible for those transitioning from road running to trails while providing a fast-paced environment for experienced trail runners.
Participants journey through various natural environments, including a stretch of Bells Beach, the clifftops of Point Addis and Anglesea, and the Split Point lighthouse at Aireys Inlet. The terrain includes wilderness sections, coastal viewpoints, and singletrack paths.
Distances and Formats
The event provides several options for participation:
- 42 km - A full marathon distance for individual solo runners.
- 42 km Team - A relay for teams of two, with each member completing approximately half the distance.
- 21 km - A half marathon distance starting from Point Addis.
- 8 km - A singletrack route running from Urquharts Beach to Fairhaven.
Bus transport services are organized for specific distances, including transfers for the 8 km event and shuttles between the start and finish locations in Torquay and Fairhaven. Post-event activities are held at the Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club and Aireys Pub. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
