16th Annual Superhero 5K and Fun Run
The 16th Annual Superhero 5K and Fun Run takes place on February 6, 2027 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. The start and finish are located on the island near the rowing finish tower. The event is held as a Foster Care Awareness event to highlight approximately 500 youth in local foster care in Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties.
The event offers in-person and virtual options and includes organized races for adults, a kids fun run, and a virtual 5K. The in-person 5K is chip timed with official chip time and place; overall and masters results use gun time. Participation medals will be awarded to the first 700 5K finishers. The course is an out-and-back route and parking is available on the island near the rowing finish tower with event signage posted for guidance.
Awards cover overall and multiple master age divisions, youth overall, and 1st through 3rd in many age groups. Trophies are presented for Best Superhero Family, Best Male and Female Superhero Costumes, Team Spirit, and Best Pet Superhero Costume. The event also features family-oriented elements such as music, a kiddie zone, food, and giveaways.
Registration opened June 1, 2026; online registration closes before race day and on-site registration is available the morning of the event. Packet pickup is scheduled at the New Balance UTC location in Sarasota prior to race day. Note that registrations after December 31, 2026 are not guaranteed a shirt.
