Summer Cross Country Series - New Canaan
A series of weekly cross country races takes place at Waveny Park in New Canaan, Connecticut, running from June 2 to September 1, 2026. Events are held on Tuesday evenings and use the park's fields and trails.
The series includes a variety of race formats and distances. Formats described by the organizer include a Predicted Time race with no watches allowed and awards for those closest to their prediction; handicap starts with staggered departures based on prior times; figure 8 courses where groups run in opposite directions crossing at three points; two-person alternating loop relays; and an ekiden-style relay with three legs.
Prizes include T-shirts for top finishers overall and in age categories, and awards in the age-graded event based on age-graded performance tables. One evening finishes down a path lit by candles in white paper bags and benefits a charitable fund with a suggested donation.
In case of severe weather such as thunderstorms or high heat and humidity, an individual race may be postponed to the following Thursday. Organizers plan to continue several operational protocols adopted during the 2020 pandemic to improve race safety and efficiency.
