Suffer Better Fall Trail Runs : Staunton State Park, October 10, 2026
The event day at Staunton State Park near Pine, Colorado, offers multiple trail distances run entirely on singletrack trails with notable elevation change. Distances offered include:
- 50K-ish ultramarathon on runnable singletrack
- 25K-ish single-loop trail
- 25K FishSlappers division, same course plus trout catch requirement
- 5K steep trail intro run
Aid stations are positioned along the courses and include water and a hydration drink labeled gNarly. Four main aid stations are listed, located at Bugling Elk and Staunton Ranch Trails (mile 4.6), Old Mill (mile 7), Dines Meadow and Staunton Ranch Trail (mile 10.6), and Davis Ponds (mile 13.4); runners in the 50K pass each station twice. Volunteers staff aid stations to assist with hydration and nutrition. The FishSlappers division has volunteers at Elk Falls Pond to support the trout catch requirement.
The start and finish are at the Lazy V Parking lot about 1.5 miles into the park; parking is limited and the park is commonly busy on a fall day. Organizers encourage carpooling and note the Mountain View Park and Ride is approximately 6 miles from the start. Course maps and GPX files are provided for each distance. The event raises funds for Conservation Colorado, Western Resource Advocates, and Running Rivers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
