The Bear Chase
The Bear Chase is a two-day trail race weekend held October 3-4, 2026 at Bear Creek Lake Park, Big Soda Lake Beach, in Lakewood, Colorado. The event offers multiple distances on largely looped courses with most running on dirt and singletrack trails.
Distances included in the event:
- 100K (62.2 miles) multi-lap trail course
- 50 Mile (50.0 miles) multi-lap trail course
- 50K (31.1 miles) mixed loop course
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles) single loop on trail
- 10K (6.1 miles) mostly trail with a short asphalt section
- 5K (3.1 miles) single loop
Most courses are reported as 99% soft surface or singletrack with short sections of asphalt on some shorter distances. Total elevation gain varies by distance; aid stations are positioned around the loops and typically offer water, endurance fuel, soda, and a range of sweet and salty snacks. Restroom facilities at aid stations are portable toilets.
Event rules specify that crew assistance is allowed only at the Start/Finish area and that pacers are permitted for the longest races under event rules; pacers are prohibited for shorter distances. Runners must carry their own hydration container because the race is cup free. Drop bags, parking, park pass entry, medical support at the Start/Finish, basic first aid at aid stations, and wildlife safety guidance are part of the event logistics.
