About the race
The Squatchywaska Mountainfest is a trail running event on April 24, 2027 in Ellenville, New York, with the start and finish at Berme Road Park. The event offers two mountain-distance courses on a lollipop route through the Shawangunk Ridge and Minnewaska area, featuring cliffs, steep climbs, rock slabs, roots, and scenic ridgelines including views of Verkeerder Kill Falls.
Distances:
- 25K closer to 17 miles, with about 2,500 ft elevation gain
- 10 mile with about 1,800 ft elevation gain
Both courses are technical and include more than 3 miles of crushed gravel carriage roads alongside narrow singletrack and scrambling sections. The course will be marked with neon pink ribbons and large directional arrows. Capacity is capped at 150 participants and the event uses a lottery process in December with names drawn January 1; remaining registrants are placed on a waitlist.
There is a 6 hour cutoff for both events; 25K runners should maintain roughly a 21 minute per mile pace and 10 mile runners roughly a 36 minute per mile pace. Two on-course aid stations serve both courses; aid stations provide water, Skratch, and packaged snack items. Aid stations are not crew-accessible.
Required items include a charged cell phone, a water bottle or hydration pack, at least 200 extra calories, a whistle, and a GPX of the course on a device. Dogs are not allowed at Berme Road Park.
