Event overview
Squatchywaska Mountainfest is a trail running event in Ellenville, New York, held on April 25, 2026. It offers two distances:
- 25K - listed as closer to 17 miles
- 10 Miler
The event is capped at 150 participants across both distances and benefits Run Wild, Inc.'s fundraising campaign to protect Verkeerder Kill Falls and surrounding land.
Course and logistics
Both courses are mountain routes on the Shawangunk Ridge with technical singletrack, many rocks and roots, crushed gravel carriage roads, steep climbs and descents, and sections of cliff and ledge. Elevation gain is listed as about 2,500 ft for the 25K and 1,800 ft for the 10 Miler. Both routes begin and end at Berme Road Park and include a long initial climb on Smiley Carriage Road of roughly 1,500+ ft in about 3.2 miles. The 25K remains on the Long Path and Shawangunk Ridge Trail to visit Verkeerder Kill Falls and passes by Lake Maratanza. Public transit is not available to reach the start; participants are expected to arrive by private transport.
A 6-hour overall cutoff applies to both distances. The 25K has two on-course cutoffs and the event advises sturdy, grippy trail shoes and, optionally, trekking poles for technical sections. The organizer does not recommend the event for children under 16.
Aid stations and mandatory gear
There are two on-course aid stations: Smiley (mile 3.2 / 13.75 for the 25K; mile 3.2 / 6.85 for the 10M) and Maratanza (mile 11 for the 25K). Aid stations supply water, Skratch hydration, snacks, and basic first aid; an AED and private changing tents are available at the start/finish area. Required gear includes a charged cell phone, a water bottle or hydration pack (recommended at least 1.5 L), at least 300 extra calories, a whistle, and a GPX course map on a phone or device.
