Step Up for KIDS 5K and Memorial Walk
The Step Up for KIDS 5K and Memorial Walk is a community event held at the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita. This 23rd annual event supports the Kansas Infant Death and SIDS Network. The proceedings take place at a living history museum that recreates 1870s Victorian Wichita, and the course offers a scenic route along the riverside.
Participants can choose between the following event options:
- 5K Run: A timed or untimed 3.1-mile course starting and ending at the museum.
- Memorial Walk: A dedicated walk to honor infants who have died too soon, featuring memorial signs placed along the route.
- Virtual 5K: An option for participants to complete the distance on a course of their own choosing between April 4 and April 25.
The event grounds include various amenities for registered participants, such as a children's fair with activities, a brunch following the physical events, and admission to explore the Old Cowtown Museum. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in both adult and youth categories. Additionally, an award is given to the team that raises the most funds for the organization.
The course is accessible for individuals using strollers and wheelchairs. To maintain safety within the museum grounds, pets, glass containers, and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. The event takes place regardless of weather conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
