5K Celebration
Girls on the Run Heart of Kansas holds an end-of-season celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The event for Fall 2026 is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, 2026; the specific location is listed as TBD.
The course is a standard 5K distance of 3.1 miles, run or walked on roads closed to traffic. One aid station will be available on course and additional water will be provided at the finish line for runners; participants are encouraged to bring personal water as needed. Pets are not allowed at the event.
Program participants and coaches are already registered by the council and do not need to complete separate registration. Community members, family, and friends may participate as registered runners or as a Running Buddy. A Running Buddy is an individual designated by the council or a parent or guardian to accompany a program participant for the entire course. Registration fees vary by category and by registration period.
Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a medal, a t-shirt, a swag bag, and snacks at the finish line. The council assigns race bibs, provides course monitoring, and maintains a safety plan; volunteers selected through the council undergo background checks. Additional event features include face painting, happy hair stations, merchandise sales, and volunteer roles such as course monitors and water stations.
