5K Celebration
The Girls on the Run Heart of Kansas season ends with a celebratory 5K that gives program participants a clear sense of accomplishment. The Fall 2026 5K is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, 2026, with the exact location to be determined.
The course is 3.1 miles and will be run or walked on roads with the course closed to traffic. There will be one aid station on the course and additional water at the finish line for runners only; runners and spectators are encouraged to bring their own water. Pets are not allowed at the event.
Participants wear race bibs and are paired with a running buddy for the entire course. A running buddy is an individual designated to complete the 5K alongside a program participant; parents or guardians may serve as running buddies and must register. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the council.
Every registered participant who completes the 5K will receive a medal, a t-shirt, a swag bag, and snacks at the finish line. Registration categories include Running Buddy, Community Runner, and Youth Community Runner (ages 5 to 15) with tiered fees for early, general, late, and race day registration. Liability waivers are required for registration.
Volunteers support set-up, packet pickup, course monitoring, water stations, cheer stations, and activity stations such as happy hair or face painting. Volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check. The council maintains a safety plan and monitors the course during the event.
