Stanza Stones Winter Edition
The Stanza Stones Winter Edition is a 24 hour, 51 mile linear route with over 6600 ft of ascent, starting at Marsden in West Yorkshire and finishing in Ilkley. The course traverses moorland of the South Pennines, passes through the historical village of Haworth, and includes a climb over Ilkley Moor near the finish.
Participants visit six Stanza Stones along the route. Each stone bears a poem by Simon Armitage and relates to the theme of water. The six stone names are Snow, Rain, Mist, Dew, Puddle and Beck.
The event includes live tracking supplied by Open Tracking, six checkpoints (three of which are indoors) offering food and drink, and professional medical and rescue support. Finishers receive a meal and a memento. The finish venue provides changing rooms and hot showers. Registration is possible at either end of the route.
Optional extras are offered for an additional fee and include a mixed sex bunk room booking at the finish venue, an optional coach from Ilkley to the start, an optional cotton t-shirt, and transport after finishing. The minimum age to enter is 20 years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
