Event overview

The Stanza Stones Winter Edition is a 24-hour, point-to-point event covering 50 miles with over 6,600 ft of ascent. The route runs from Marsden, West Yorkshire to Ilkley and crosses moorland of the South Pennines. The course visits the six Stanza Stones, each inscribed with a poem by Simon Armitage linked to the theme of water. The six stone names are Snow, Rain, Mist, Dew, Puddle and Beck. The route also passes through the historic village of Haworth before climbing over Ilkley Moor near the finish.

Logistics and entries

The minimum age to enter is 20 years. Entries open on Monday 21 April 2025 and close on Friday 14 November 2025. Entry fees are listed as UKA member £90.00 and non-member £95.00, with an instalment option: £35 deposit, then two payments of £30 (due dates shown on the entry page). The event lists 69 participants so far.

Included services are live tracking supplied by Open Tracking, three indoor checkpoints with food and drink, professional medical and rescue support, a finishers meal and a finishers memento. There is an option to register at either end of the route and changing rooms are available at the finish (no showers). Optional extras include a coach from Ilkley to Marsden (£11) and a cotton t-shirt (£20). Registration locations are given as Ben Rhydding Junior School, Ilkley, and Marsden Cricket Club, Marsden.
