Event Overview
The St David's Day Run is a running event held in Bute Park, Cardiff, to celebrate St David's Day. It features several race distances and a family-oriented atmosphere, with a portion of each entry fee donated to charity.
Distances & Course
The event offers four race options:
- Half Marathon (approx. 21.1 km)
- 10K
- 5K
- Kids 1.5K ("mini run for little dragons")
The course is run on paths within Bute Park and is described as flat. The 5K is one lap, the 10K is two laps, and the half marathon is just over four laps (four laps plus an additional 1.1 km loop). The route is buggy-friendly and wheelchair-friendly. Participants are recommended to wear road running shoes.
Charitable Partnership
The event is partnered with two Welsh charities: Cancer Research Wales and Kidney Wales. A donation from every entry fee is given to each charity, and participants are encouraged to run in support of them.
Event Day & Inclusions
On the day, registration opens at 8:00 AM. The half marathon starts at 9:00 AM, the 5K and 10K start at 10:00 AM, and the kids' race starts at 11:30 AM. Every entrant receives chip timing, a finisher's medal, and drinks and refreshments. There is a bag storage area (with limited space), toilets on-site, and trophies for winners. Results are available instantly and online after the event.
Location & Access
The event hub is located at Coopers Field in Bute Park, Cardiff. There is no dedicated parking within the park; participants are advised to use city centre car parks, on-street parking, or park-and-ride services.
