ABP Newport Marathon Festival
The ABP Newport Marathon Festival is a prominent event in the Welsh running calendar, taking place in Newport, Wales. The event is known for having one of the flattest marathon courses in Europe, making it a popular choice for participants looking to record personal best times. The routes start and finish at the city's riverfront and pass through various landmarks and natural scenery.
Participants can choose from several race distances:
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon
- 10K
- Mile
- Junior Races
The marathon and half marathon courses include views of the city's historic Castle, the Victorian Market, the Transporter Bridge, and the International Sports Village. These longer routes also transition into the Gwent Levels, where runners pass through medieval villages and coastal landscapes. The 10K and mile options are designed to allow a wide range of participants to experience the event atmosphere on shorter courses.
The festival weekend includes supporting activities such as a Women's Running Conference and a Pasta Party held the day before the main races. Organized by Run 4 Wales (R4W) with support from Newport City Council, the event provides professional race management, live tracking, and an event village for spectators and participants.
