Event
Butcombe Trail Ultra is a pair of self-navigation ultramarathons held on 25 April 2026 at Mendip Activity Centre, Lyncombe Drive, Churchill, BS25 5PQ. The races are organised by the Town and Country Harriers and raise funds for the Mendip Hills Fund. The route runs mostly off-road through the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and will run anti-clockwise from the Race HQ.

Entries opened 8 June 2025 and close 11 April 2026. Entry numbers listed show 139 participants so far. Minimum age is 20 or older. Entry fees are listed with an increase of £5 from 2025 to cover tracking devices; later-price increases apply from 14 January 2026. The 50-mile race requires applicants to have completed a trail marathon since 1 January 2025. Both races are UTMB index qualifying events (50 miles as a 100 km index race; 50 km as a 50 km index race).
Race format and rules
The event is self-navigated and mostly off-road. The fee increase includes use of tracking devices for timing and safety. Organisers are volunteers from an off-road running club. Key rules include a prohibition on wearing both earpieces at checkpoints and marshalled road crossings, allowance of one pacer from the final checkpoint, mandatory kit carried at all times, a pregnancy refund policy, and free entry for guide runners who register.
