Spring in Lakeland
Spring in Lakeland is a long-distance walking and running event that starts and finishes at Ambleside Parish Centre in Cumbria. The route is approximately 23 miles with about 4400 ft of ascent, passing Loughrigg Tarn, Skelwith Bridge, High Tilberthwaite, Coniston and Tarn Hows before returning along the Cumbria Way.
The event welcomes both runners and walkers. Maps OL 6 and 7 are required and navigational skills are necessary. Limited catering is available at the Coniston checkpoint and at the finish. Dogs are not permitted because it is lambing season. Entrants are asked to bring a mug. Parking is available in public car parks in Ambleside and parking charges apply; parking in church or Parish Centre grounds is not allowed.
Entry details include a minimum age of 14 and separate fees for LDWA members and non-members. Entries were initially open to LDWA members, with non-members admitted from 1 December 2025. At the time of publication the event is full and new entries are placed on a waiting list.
Safety requirements specify that all entrants must carry a route description, maps OL 6 and 7, a compass, whistle, emergency food and drink, and waterproof and windproof upper clothing and trousers. Competitors must check in at all checkpoints and report to the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
