Spooktacular 5K and Monster Mile
The Spooktacular 5K and Monster Mile takes place on October 31 in Huntsville, Alabama. This themed event is designed for runners and walkers of all ages. Participants have the option to compete in athletic gear or wear costumes during the races.
The event includes two primary distances:
- 5 km
- 1 mile (Monster Mile)
The 5 km course is a certified road race that begins on Church Street, just north of the Museum of Art. The 1 mile race also starts on Church Street and commences once all participants from the longer distance have finished. The events take place regardless of weather conditions, proceeding in both rain and sunshine.
A costume contest is held in conjunction with the races. Participants can check in with judges to be considered for various categories, including best animal, cartoon, celebrity, princess, rock star, and superhero costumes. Other categories recognize the funniest, goriest, most original, and scariest costumes, as well as a top prize for best of show.
Logistics include packet pick-up at Fleet Feet Huntsville on the day before the race or at the event site on the morning of the run. Parking is available at a designated garage near Clinton and Church Street. Awards for the races and the costume contest are presented following the conclusion of the 1 mile event.
