Event Overview
The Dizzy Fifties is a grassroots trail running event held at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. Organized by the Huntsville Track Club, the race celebrates its 23rd annual edition in 2026. The event takes place on a figure-eight style loop, with each lap measuring approximately 10 miles and featuring about 1,000 feet of climbing.
The course is divided into two distinct sections. The first half consists of flatter, faster terrain along the South Plateau, Firetower, and Family Bike trails. The second portion of the loop involves more significant elevation changes, dipping off the plateau and traveling through Logan-Keith and the Sinks trail before returning to the main pavilion.
Distance Options
Participants can choose from three distance categories:
- 50K: Consists of three loops with approximately 3,000 feet of total elevation gain.
- 20 Mile: Consists of two loops.
- 10 Mile: Consists of a single loop.
Course Logistics and Support
This is a cupless race; participants receive a reusable cup for use at the aid station. There is one fully stocked aid station located at the John Scoble Memorial Pavilion, providing water, soda, and various trail food. Runners may also set up personal aid at the pavilion. Medical support is provided on-site.
The event has specific time limits for completion. Runners in the 50K have a 9-hour limit and must begin their final loop by a designated afternoon cutoff. The 20 Mile and 10 Mile distances have a time limit of 8 hours and 45 minutes.
Participant Requirements
Registration must be completed by mid-October to guarantee a shirt. The event maintains a strict policy regarding distance changes, which must be requested several days before the race. Runners must complete the specific distance they are registered for to receive an official result. To ensure safety on the shared trails, the use of headphones is strongly discouraged, and bicycles, strollers, or pets are not permitted on the course.
